Dear Patient

Your doctor has recommended that you lose weight which is not an easy task.  There are multiple ways to approach this, but no diet will work long term if it is not followed up by lifestyle modifications.  Your doctor is here to help you with this.

Take Shape for Life is a weight loss program
coordinated and monitored closely by your doctor at Genesys.
The program is based on the
BeSlim Philosophy of lifelong weight Control which incorporates key behaviors:

Breakfast - It's key for your body to start the day properly!
Exercise - Exercise is a key component because it increases metabolism, provides greater flexibility, strength, improves bone structure, posture, enhances mental clarity and strengthens the immune system. Exercise Guide
Support - Your doctor will keep you on track!  You also have access to the Virtual Clinic and Support In Motion on the web.
Low fat meals 5-6 times a day - Eating frequently, restricting fat intake and controlling portion sizes and total calories are critical for success.
Individual Plan - Your doctor will help you create an individual plan to help you navigate through a hostile environment of temptations and nutritional pollution.  Your plan is the key to adopting an Optimal Healthy lifestyle.
Monitor - Once you have achieved your healthy weight you'll want to stay there.  Frequent monitoring is the key. Simply weighing yourself on a regular basis, or trying on a pair of jeans once a week to check how they fit can literally catch a problem before it gains momentum!

It consists of 3 phases - weight loss, transition and maintenance.

The weight loss phase is focused on reaching your weight loss goal.  Your doctor and you will decide what this goal is and how to achieve it.  This phase varies in length depending on how much you need to lose.  During this phase you stay on a 5&1 meal plan which consists of 5 Medifast meals and 1meal that you prepare yourself. Weight Loss Guide

The transition phase starts when you have reached your goal.  Again the length of this phase varies depending on how much weight you have lost.  Transition and Maintenance provide the keys to maintaining your weight loss results long-term.  During Transition and Maintenance, you will be reintroduced to foods you previously put on hold - foods such as fruits, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, and higher-carbohydrate vegetables. Remember, this program is a lifestyle change not just a short-term weight loss solution.  Transition and Maintenance are the primary building blocks necessary to form your new healthy lifestyle. Please review the enclosed materials in this starter packet.  Please also go to the Take Shape For Life website
for further information. This will help you in deciding if this is something for you.

You have to be willing to devote about 6 months depending on how far you are from your ideal weight.  Your doctor will see you about once a month to help keep you on the right track, monitor your progress, but most of all make adjustments to your medications if needed.  With weight loss you will improve your blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol.

After reviewing this material you will schedule your initial consultation with your doctor.  After this consultation you are ready to get started. The meals cost around $10/day. Price Comparison Guide
